Managing Change (with Humor)

We can't always control the changes that come our way, but we can control how we look a them. In the midst of the challenges of change, we recommend remembering to keep your sense of humor!

Experts say that managing change can be done in three easy steps. In this O'Shea Report exclusive, we will take an inside look at how these steps can be ruined.

Gain Commitment

In this day and age, you don’t have to actually be good at your job. You just have to be committed to the organization. In fact, the more committed you are, the better. The best way to show your commitment is to be so committed, you need to be committed…to an institution. Go team go!

Get Buy-in

People want to know what’s in it for them. “Why should I care?”

Good old-fashioned money used to do the trick...well actually, it still does, but people today want money plus other stuff. So how do you get your people to buy into your ideas?

Psychology 101: People will buy in to your idea if it will make them think they are better than you. So ask yourself, "What will make this person really think they've suckered me this time?"

More time off? Complimentary cloning? Less of you and your fabulous ideas?

Take a poll to find out what people really want. Then delete the answers that you don't like.

Shoot for the Stars

Thanks to motivational books and speakers, we are all being told to dream a bigger dream. This means bigger and bigger change.

Realistic people will often stand in your way and tell you that your unrealistic goals are absurd. Well we say, rubbish. Prove them wrong by buying a bigger house, a fancier car, and shinier jewelry. Sure you may not be able to afford them, but what do you think credit is for?

No goal is too unrealistic as long as you don’t expect to actually achieve it.
